Peterborough Model Mike Rodin Making Waves On Global Stage—And Harlequin Book Covers

Peterborough Model Mike Rodin, who recently strutted his stuff on the the Catwalks of Toronto Fashion Week 2014 for HD Homme, Filthy Haanz, Farley Chatto, Soia Kyo, Rudsak and Viggo, is making waves on the international stage.

Over the past few months, the Strutt Central model has booked campaigns for Old Spice, Ash City, Gucci Showroom, Hazelton Lanes and most recently as lead Actor in a Universal Studios Music Video "Oh".

In addition, Mike's face will grace the covers of more than 25 Harlequin Romance novels.    

After fulfilling a successful contract in Shanghai, China this past year, Mike's next stop is Europe. He will be jetting off to Milan in the next few weeks to embark on a modelling contract with The FASHION Model Management Milan a top European agency.

The thought of selling a home is a scary one for a lot of people. Numerous fears creep into one’s mind and they can take a lot to overcome. Not only is the physical task of preparing the home to be listed a tough one, but almost even tougher is the ability to mentally prepare yourself to let go.

Patrick McAuley of Bowes and Cocks knows about these difficulties all too well and brings his professional experience to help people in this instance from start to finish. Often times the hardest thing for people to do is disconnect from the home they’ve lived in for years.

Emotional attachments to the physical property can make it hard to leave. This is why Patrick knows he has to help his clients realize that when they decide to sell, the home is no longer there but a product on the market. Once he helps his clients make the mental decision to “let go” of their emotions and focus on selling, there are a few things that help the process move along.

To begin with, Patrick helps his clients de-clutter! There are a few ways to help with this:

-        Pack up the knickknacks that have been collected around the house
-        Clean off counters and table tops to leave as much viewable space as possible
-        Put away every day essential items into boxes that can be quickly stored when not in use
-        Donate or discard anything that is lying around the house and of no use anymore

There are also a few reasons to possibly rent a storage unit and rearrange furniture/rooms:

-        Sometimes you don’t have enough space to put away larger unnecessary items
-        Homes tend to show better with less furniture
-        Remove furniture that block paths and walkways
-        Minimize furniture in each room to showcase its purpose 
-        Leave as much room as possible to move around and discover

Physical repairs to a house before showing are also an obvious must, and sometimes the smallest fixes can make a major difference.

Interior

-        Replace cracked floor and counter tiles
-        Patch holes in walls
-        Fix leaky faucets
-        Fix doors that don’t close properly
-        Replace light bulbs
-        Fix drawers that jam

Exterior

-        Keep lawn mowed
-        Paint faded window trim
-        Keep sidewalks cleared
-        Trim trees and plants
-        Plant flowers to brighten things up

When preparing to sell a house, Patrick always tells his clients the truth about what can and should be done to stage the property, according to what they can get out of it. He likes to remind people that sometimes major fixes and investments such as replacing an entire bathroom or kitchen aren’t necessary and that minor adjustments can equal major improvements.

Ash's Style File Notes: I spotted her a couple of weeks ago at Hunter and George, and was very struck by her look. On that day, she was wearing a pencil skirt paired with this coat, beige hosiery, black ankle boots and bright red lips. • Her artistic expression really led me to think about the way people in this city express their personalities through the clothes that they wear. • This time of year is particularly hard to dress for, but I love that Franny is perfectly dressed for the weather. The staple green cardigan is from Sympathy for the Rebel, she says. • The bright colours peeking out under the wintery—and necessary—coat are a reminder that Spring is breaking through in little hints. Local Man Starts Kickstarter Campaign For His Self-Published Book On Schizophrenia

Peterborough resident David LaChapelle has written a book called David's Battle with Schizophrenia: My Road to Recovery, which is on track to be finished this September. David is looking to self-publish the book, but needs your help to get there. He has started a Kickstarter campaign recently, and there is only 8 days left for him to reach his goal of $2,000. What is interesting is that instead of using basic frozen ground beef, Apollo Grill uses fresh steak that is ground in house each day. They also cut and blanche their own fries. To complete the experience, Apollo Grill offers hand-dipped shakes which are made from premium local Central Smith ice cream. Of course there are also onion rings, sweet potato fries, veggie burgers and delicious poutine offered at both locations. A few must tries include the Apollo burger, the Mushroom Swiss, and of course the famous Royal Burger, all offered as a single or double burger.

Here's Rob Ford At The Leafs Game Last Night, It Ain't Pretty

The Leafs lost last night, again, pretty much eliminating them from the playoffs. Fans weren't happy, and neither was Mayor Rob Ford. He was there and was downright belligerent—to the point ACC security had to ask him to control himself, maybe because the Leafs were losing or possibly because he was denied entry into the exclusive Directors' Lounge, the Star reports. Ford eventually disappeared, hailing a cab or something, as his budget chief who was with him couldn't find him. This clip was sent to Peterborough's PMZ of Ford at the game before he bolted early. Help This Woman Find Her Engagement Ring & Wedding Band Lost In Peterborough

A Bridgenorth woman lost her sapphire and diamond engagement ring and wedding band in Peterborough and desperately wants it back. She's been tweeting about it, and here's the post she put on Kijiji about it...

"Large reward for the return of my diamond and sapphire engagement ring and wedding band. Taken from lower PCVS gym between 8pm Wednesday evening to Thursday at 7pm. Someone took the engagement and wedding band and left the larger wedding band behind. Please return these rings, I am sad and heartbroken. I don't want replacements, I want my rings. I will pay you to get them back, just please return them.

My engagement ring was one I had admired for many years. My husband saved and saved to get me the exact ring I wanted. He put the ring onto a beaded necklace my daughter gave to him and kept it hidden under his shirt. He asked my parents and my Aunt for permission the night before we left on a vacation. When we went through customs he had to lift the necklace and show the customs officers behind my back that he had a secret engagement ring on the necklace that was  setting the alarms off.

He proposed to me in Antigua and we married the following year. We have been through so much together and we custom designed the engraving on the bands as well. I know you must have a heart because you left the larger wedding band with engraving of my wedding date and nick name on them. Please do the right thing and return these rings. These are the rings my husband proposed to me with, that I wore on a necklace when I was sick in bed because my hands were too swollen to wear them. They are the rings my babies played with while I rocked them to sleep. The rings my girls would receive when I pass on.

After we were engaged the necklace my daughter made (a colourful beaded necklace) hung from our rearview mirror. Someone stole our truck, they stole everything inside of it, stripped all of the rims and anything worth any amount. They even stole the necklace. My computer with our engagement photos was also stolen. That ring was the last thing I have from our actual engagement.

PLEASE return them to me no questions asked, large reward given. I just want them back. Stealing them is not worth it, I have notified all of the pawn shops, auction sites and kijiji, the police as well. If you have any shred of decency and heart you will return these rings to me. A criminal record or chance of one is not worth it. PLEASE return them. I promise I will pay you a large reward. I just want them back as soon as possible.

I keep trying to imagine what you are doing with them. How desperate you must feel that you need to steal. I know how badly it hurts when you are suffering and hungry and have no money. I know what it's like to have an addiction and if this is you and you really need this money, I promise I will not hurt you or turn you in, I just want the rings back and I will give you whatever else you want in $$$ for it. Please understand how much this means to me. I cannot stop crying and I feel sick, I am losing my faith in humanity and wondering why people keep stealing from us and taking advantage. I would never hurt anyone.

Please note one of the photos is of the ring before the engraving was done on the outside. I wish I had better photos. I have notified every pawn shop in Ontario that I can find. I have also filed a police report. Take them to the police and turn them in, or contact me for a large cash reward. NO QUESTIONS ASKED."
