Contemporary Dance Company "Le Patin Libre" to Perform at Peterborough Memorial Centre

Public Energy Performing Arts is bringing the internationally-renowned contemporary dance company Le Patin Libre and their performance ‘Murmuration’ to the Peterborough Memorial Centre on April 8, 2025 at 7:30 p.m.

Le Patin Libre of Montreal has assembled a company of 15 virtuoso skaters from 7 countries to perform the original dance on ice, ‘Murmuration’, based on the aerial ballets of swarms of birds.

According to a media release, the dancers move at high speeds around the rink, nearly careening into each other, coming together as one, instantly changing directions and splitting up into separate flocks.

Tickets for the event are available from the Peterborough Memorial Centre Box Office.

Sept. 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

“The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an important opportunity to reflect on our histories, learn about the injustices committed against Indigenous communities and dedicate ourselves to contribute toward reconciliation,” stated mayor Jeff Leal. “As a community, we need to take meaningful action to fulfil our collective commitment to reconciliation. I encourage everyone to take part in the activities organized by groups across our community.”

The Every Child Matters flag will be flown at City Hall for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It’s also providing Every Child Matters stickers, buttons and bookmarks to encourage participation and learning through its National Day for Truth and Reconciliation activities.

It features work by Mary Anne Barkhouse, John Boyle, Brad Copping, Liz Magor, Stan Olthuis, Amanda Strong and Olivia Whetung.

Norwood Fair Keeping Its Long Tradition Going With 2024 Edition Running From Oct. 12 to 14

A Thanksgiving tradition since 1868, The Norwood Fall Fair returns for 2024 from Oct. 12 to 14.

This year’s theme, ‘Country Roads Take Me Home,’ celebrates the fair’s agricultural roots with all roads leading home to make memories with family and friends over the holiday weekend according to a press release.

Events, displays and attractions include heavy and light horse shows, poultry show, steer show and sale, sheepdog demonstrations and 4-H Beef, Goat and Dairy Calf and Junior Shows.

The antique tractor display and show, lawnmower races, and the Antique and Classic Car Show returns on Saturday with live musical entertainment throughout the weekend on the stages. The Homecraft division displays and the midway will be running all weekend. A parade through the village kicks off the event at noon on Saturday.

New to the fair is the Junior Fair Ambassador Competition in the Brethen Coliseum on Sunday. Grade 5 and 6 contestants from Asphodel-Norwood Township are in the competition for prizes.

The Art School of Peterborough Hosting An Anniversary Celebration With a 30-Year Milestone

The Art School of Peterborough is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style on Sept. 21 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Mount Community Centre.

For 30 years, The Art School of Peterborough as a not for profit organization has offered the Peterborough community opportunities to explore their creativity and build their visual art skills. Photo courtesy of the Mount COmmunity Centre.

The event will have all current and previous students with supportive community members with the event open to anyone.

Light refreshments, interactive live art, a photo booth, a DJ and a cash bar will be at the festivities.

It will also showcase a variety of the students’s work of art. Calendars are available for pre-orders and for pick up during the event. They are be $30 each.

Full of award-winning circus-style performers, aerialists, contortionists, jugglers, dancers are performing for family entertainment.

Tickets go on sale on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. online or in person at the box office. Tickets are priced at $39.50, $54.50 and $69.50 (plus applicable fees; subject to change). There is also a kid’s ticket price of $20.00 for children under the age of 12.

The Basketball Antics of the Harlem Globetrotters Return to the Peterborough Memorial Centre Feb. 5

The Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their world-famous basketball antics to the Peterborough Memorial Centre to take on their renowned rivals, the Washington Generals, on Feb. 5, announced on Monday.

See the trick-shot stars of basketball, bringing their signature spins, dunks and slams to the court as they showcase their superstars’ skills and seemingly impossible feats of athleticism.

Players go head-to-head in an exhilarating battle of skills featuring epic dunks, jaw-dropping four-point shots and more.

Fan engagement continues with pre-game offerings such as the Magic Pass with post-game access and more in-game fan interactions.

The sixth annual Peterborough VegFest’s will delight vegetarians and vegans at Millennium Park this Sunday from 11 pa.m. to 4 p.m.

The Kawartha World Issues Centre To Celebrate 35 Years at Market Hall On Oct. 29

In celebration of their 35th year, Kawartha World Issues Centre, their event and fundraiser ‘Think Global, Act Local: 35 Years of KWIC’ is being held at Market Hall on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.

The event will celebrate KWIC’s rich history and look ahead to the future.There is a keynote speech from Larissa Crawford, founder and managing director of Future Ancestors Inc. It will address the importance of youth voices in the fight for social and environmental justice according to a press release.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate KWIC’s amazing work in the Peterborough community,” said Dr. Stephanie Rutherford, Chair of the 35th Anniversary Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board. “Join us to reflect on the work of this remarkable organization that’s been making positive change for the last 35 years.”

This event will also feature a performance by Mimi O’Bonsawin, a contemporary roots singer-songwriter born in Northeastern Ontario with mixed French Canadian and Abénaki heritage and a member of Odanak First Nation.

Attendees can also support KWIC’s ongoing fundraising efforts by participating in the silent auction which boasts a number of kindly donated prizes. This includes personal training sessions, a Yankee Candle gift hamper and some exclusive vintage KWIC swag.

KWIC invites all community members to attend Think Global, Act Local and discuss the future of advocacy and the role of young people in creating change.
