Tom Green Live at The Venue

Canadian-American comedian, show host, actor, filmmaker, podcaster and rapper. After pursuing stand-up comedy and music as a young adult, Green created and hosted The Tom Green Show, which aired on Canadian television and later on MTV between 1994 and 2000.  The show became popular for its shock comedy, absurdist pranks and Green’s manic persona, and influenced later series such as Jackass and The Eric Andre Show. Green has also appeared in the Hollywood films Road Trip (2000), Charlie’s Angels (2000), Stealing Harvard (2002), and Shred (2008). Green additionally directed, co-wrote and starred in the cult film Freddy Got Fingered (2001).  He was briefly married to actress Drew Barrymore (2001–2002), who co-starred with him in Charlie’s Angels and Freddy Got Fingered.

In 2003, Green hosted the short-lived MTV late-night talk show titled The New Tom Green Show. From 2006 until 2011, he hosted an internet talk show, Tom Green’s House Tonight, from his home, and returned to performing stand-up comedy in 2010. From October 2013 to November 2014, Green hosted the weekly talk show Tom Green Live on American cable network AXS TV.

The Arrogant Worms at Market Hall

The year was 1991. Presumably, some significant world events occurred. The world truly changed in the fall however, when something truly magnificent happened in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. A beacon of hope was lit and has shone brightly ever since – The Arrogant Worms. The Arrogant Worms began as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on campus radio. The early feedback on the live shows was clear: lose the sketches. So the songs endured and they all remain because the band hates to throw anything out.

The songs were written to make fun of a big dumb world. Luckily, the world is still dumb and The Arrogant Worms (Mike McCormick, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong) still have plenty to sing about. The shows are fast, furious and family friendly. The wit is quick, the satire is biting and the musicianship is second to none. Their appeal has earned them fans from kids to parents to grandparents to Princess Leia.

In recent years the Worms have been pleased to donate their time and talent to the cause of literacy in Canada through Frontier College and were twice awarded the Peter Gzowski Award for their efforts.

So nearly a quarter century after they began, The Arrogant Worms continue to provide tuneful and silly escapism for everyone who needs it. And if you think you don’t need it, well you’re wrong. You do. The Arrogant Worms know what’s best for you and what’s best for you is The Arrogant Worms.

Lang Pioneer Village Hosting Zero-Waste Feast on the Farm Event For May 28 and 29

Lang Pioneer Village is selected to host the Feast On the Farm event, a two-day zero-waste fundraiser event for May 28 and 29 announced on Tuesday.

The event is a series that includes a gastronomic food-loving experience on the 28th followed by a full day of interactive sessions for industry professionals only on the second day.

The Culinary Tourism Alliance is hosting the event in partnership with Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism.

The consumer day event on May 28 brings together Chef Brad Watt of Publican House Brewery and Pub, Chef Tyler Scott from Rare Escape, and Chef Lisa Dixon, owner of Black Honey Cafe. Their curated dishes will be paired with local spirits by Persian Empire, craft beer by Bobcaygeon Brewing Company and Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario Certified wines.

“We’re excited to host such an inspired event,” says Joe Rees, director of tourism at Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development (PKED). “Feast On the Farm is a great opportunity for visitors to savour a menu that reflects the rich agricultural history of our region in a way that is genuinely in line with our sustainable tourism development goals.”

Every consumer day ticket supports recovery in the culinary tourism industry and includes a subsidy for industry professionals to attend the Feast On the Farm Industry Day the following day.

“Our Feast On program acts as the conduit to connect industry professionals with others in our network who are truly creating change in Ontario's food and drink space,” said Billy Alexander, director of programs for the Culinary Tourism Alliance. “Industry day is about knowledge sharing, supporting each other, and working together toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

Jackson Delta - True Blue at Market Hall

Peterborough’s own critically acclaimed blues trio, Jackson Delta returns to the Market Hall for what has been an interrupted annual reunion. It’s been a tough couple of years for musicians although Jackson Delta were lucky to have performed a handful of outdoor shows this past two summers.

The trio have performed all over North America from Memphis to Inuvik from Vancouver to Halifax. They have played countless Folk, Jazz and Blues Festivals plus radio and television and they still enjoy a dedicated fan base from across the years.

These days all members are involved in their own personal projects but always enjoy getting together and making their style of Blues that is upbeat and positive. They’ll be playing their ‘hits’ plus a sprinkling of newer tunes. As always, I’m sure there will be the usual stage banter that inevitably gets some laughs at a band members expense.

Kawartha Downs has announced its lineup for its annual Kawartha Country Music Festival, featuring several Canadian country artists for July 1 and 2 announced on Wednesday.

Multi-platinum-selling artist Dean Brody is the headliner for the festival as he will be joined by The Reklaws, James Barker Band, Jade Eagleson and Sacha.

"We are thrilled to bring back our annual country music festival to Kawartha Downs," said Summer Nickerson-Hagen, marketing director. "This year's festival will be bigger and better than ever, with an amazing lineup of talented country artists at a great price. We look forward to bringing back our signature fireworks show on Canada Day Weekend as well."

Pre-sale tickets begin Wednesday morning and through Thursday at 10 p.m. with the pre-sale code KCMF2023.

General tickets are available on Friday at 10 a.m. and all tickets can be purchased through ticketweb.ca and direct links can be found at Kawartha Downs’s website in the ‘What’s On Calendar’ section.

Send A Kid To Camp This Summer Through the AXE-travaganza Fundraising Event at the Peterborough Axe Club

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation is bringing back the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza fundraising event at the Peterborough Axe Club on May 5.

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation, in partnership with Herod Financial Services and supported by AON, Chemong Family Dental, KOMFS, Best Western Plus Otonabee Inn and Paris Marine, are bringing back this fundraising event with a goal to help 200 children involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society attend camp this summer.

“We are so excited to be able to bring this event back. This is our major fundraiser that allows us to provide the summer camp experience to children involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society.” says Carrie Truman, executive director of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation “The format of the evening is a family friendly axe throwing competition, along with food, a photo booth and a silent auction.”

2023 is the 40th anniversary of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation. Since 1983, Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation says they have expanded their scope of support, yet summer camps have remained a priority program. Over the past 40 years, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation reports they have sent over 5,340 kids to summer camp.

“Summer camp can offer disadvantaged children much more than a vacation. Camp is also an opportunity to connect with new friends, to meet and build relationships with caring adults and counsellors and to get outside and just be a kid,” said Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation in a press release. Our goal is to foster feelings of inclusion and belonging in children and build their self-confidence.”

Those participating in the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza can help ensure local, at-risk children have the opportunity to experience the joy of camp this summer.

There are two time slots of axe throwing, available May 5 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.-10 p.m. Tickets are available starting Monday for $50 per person and can be purchased online.

Shop Local Vendors at the Modern Makers Market!

The Modern Makers Market is starting 2023 off with an exciting new event to hit the Market. This is the first time they are hosting a multi-day event with entertainment to open the weekend. 

Saturday March 18th 40 small businesses and an incredible event will be introduced within the market. A special guest performance from Drag queen Xtacylove (she/her, xe/xem) and A medium named Bri (she/they) are bringing their iconic Tarot & Drag show to the Modern Makers Market! Put in your name to be chosen for a personal tarot card reading by A Medium Named Bri. Come with a question in mind that you’d like guidance on, or receive general reading where anything is possible.

Guest performances kick off at 8:00 p.m. and run until approx 10 p.m. Tickets for Saturday must be pre purchased before the event. 

On Sunday, Modern Makers is hosting their largest Spring market ever! 90+ vendors will be available to shop all things Spring. Courtney from courtyard tarot and Natasha from Henna by Tash will be at the Saturday and Sunday events. Make sure to get your name on their lists if you want a session.

2023 marks the 30th anniversary of one of Canada's favourite bands and founding member Séan McCann will be celebrating the legend and legacy across the country. Singlaong with ‘The Shantyman’ as he sails back in time through stories and foot stomping traditional favourites to the brighter bays of his native Newfoundland.
