St. James Players Presents Disney's Beauty and the Beast Musical at Showplace

The St James Players’ production of Beauty and the Beast is running for eight performances at the Showplace Performance Centre from Nov. 11 to 19, announced on Monday.

After an over two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, St. James Players are taking the stage for the all-ages performance of the iconic Disney musical.

The production is being directed by Natalie Dorsett and includes an all-local cast, with Whitney Paget as Belle and Andrew Little as the Beast.

Stars On Ice Announced For the Peterborough Memorial Centre

The Peterborough Memorial Centre is bringing the city some of Canada’s greatest ice skaters for the holidays with Stars on Ice for Dec. 6 announced on Monday.

The award-winning figure skating show features four-time World Champion and four-time Canadian Champion Kurt Browning. He is joined by two-time Olympic Silver Medalist, three-time World Champion and seven-time Canadian Champion Elvis Stojko to headline the show.

The cast includes Olympic Bronze Medalist, World Champion and three-time Canadian Champion Jeffrey Buttle; three-time Canadian Dance Champions, three-time World Medalists and 2018 Olympians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje; three-time and reigning Canadian Pair Champions Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro; two-time Canadian Champion Nam Nguyen; Canadian junior champion and social media sensation Elladj Baldé; two-time United States Champion Alissa Czisny. Cirque-Style Performers 'Holiday Dreams' Coming to the Peterborough Memorial Centre

Acrobats, daredevils and performers are taking the stage in a cirque-style show as Las Vegas’s Holiday Dreams are scheduled to perform at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (PMC) on Dec. 14 announced on Tuesday.

The show, ‘Holiday Dreams, A Spectacular Holiday Show!"‘ features projection mapping and interactive lasers along with their performances. They have been seen on America's Got Talent and Outrageous Acts of Science.

"I also wanted to create a show that celebrated the spirit of the Holidays and would serve as a bridge for families from different generations to come together and experience something together,” said Fernando Quevedo, creator and producer. “We are all absorbed in our little technological worlds. Theatre allows a communal experience."

Holiday Dreams tells a story that connects all of the performers featuring a mischievous Elf that thinks he has mailed himself to a tropical island but instead finds himself delivered to the wrong address in the PMC.

Champions of Magic Have Rescheduled Date At Peterborough Memorial Centre For Dec. 9

World-class illusionists Champions of Magic have a rescheduled date to perform at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (PMC) for Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. announced on Tuesday.

The original date was scheduled for Feb. 20 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are extremely excited to welcome this one-of-a-kind spectacle to the PMC in 2022,” said Jeremy Giles, PMC facility manager. “It feels almost magical that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the pandemic and we cannot wait to welcome our fans back inside the arena for more of the same amazing entertainment they have come to expect from us.”

The fivesome has garnered more than 50 million online views between them. The award-winning magicians showcase mind reading, close-up magic and large-scale illusions.

They have been showcased on The CW’s ‘Penn & Teller: Fool Us’, NBC’s ‘Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon’, ‘The Today Show’ and ‘Access Hollywood Live.’

Following ticketed events at Market Hall on Thursday and Friday evenings, free performances were held throughout the weekend in Nicholls Oval park as part of Peterborough Folk Festival.

First organized in 1989 as part of the now defunct Peterborough Arts Umbrella, the festival became a not-for-profit organization in 2001 and a registered charity in 2018.

The mandate of the festival is to promote folk music and arts within the Peterborough community as well as provide safely accessible venues and diverse audiences for both local and Canadian touring musicians.

The 2022 edition of Folk Fest featured acts such as the Sudbury string band, Murder Murder.

I, The Mountain from Kitchener played through sunset and into the evening.

Afie Jurvanen, known by his stage name, Bahamas headlined the show with a packed performance on Saturday Night. Jurvanen was born in Toronto and raised in Barrie.

On Sunday the 12-piece band from the Niagara area, My Son The Hurricane performed during the day. Lead singer Jacob Bergsma, wore a Zellers smock to commemorate the announcement that the Canadian company would be returning.

In addition to the performances, the festival featured an artisan village, a food village and valet bicycling parking provided by B!KE Community Bike Shop. Reusable dishes were used by food vendors and a team of volunteers washed and returned them to keep the festival as eco-friendly as possible.

The Peterborough Folk Festival is a volunteer-run, non-profit, registered charity organization and relies on the generosity of sponsors and donors to keep the event free.

Psychic Medium Theresa Caputo to Appear at the Peterborough Memorial Centre

‘Long Island Medium’ star Theresa Caputo, is appearing at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Nov. 5 announced on Monday.

Theresa will share personal stories about her life and deliver healing messages to audience members; giving people comfort knowing that their loved ones who passed are still with them according to the press release.

“The Experience” brings Caputo face-to-face with fans as ‘Spirit’ guides her through the audience complete with a full-stage video.

“The Experience isn’t about believing in mediums. It’s about seeing something life-changing” said Caputo. “It’s like Long Island Medium live, witnessing first-hand spirit communication.”

Caputo has made appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “Live with Kelly and Michael,” “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” “Tamron Hall,” and “The Today Show.”

She has authored five books including NY Times Best Sellers “Good Grief: Heal Your Soul, Honor Your Loved Ones, and Learn to Live Again” (2017) and “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” (2014).
