Oh! You Pretty Things! The Bowie Lives: A Bowie Spectacular Returns To Market Hall

The Bowie Lives: A Bowie Spectacular is returning to Market Hall after performing to a sold out crowd in January 2020.

Michael Bell, an award-winning vocalist, will channel the sound and styles of David Bowie with the help of an all-star band, theatre and costumes.

While the music may be enough to transport the crowd to a true Ziggy performance, those in attendance are invited to arrive in costume.

From Ziggy Stardust to Halloween Jack - any and all personas that Bowie portrayed throughout his career are welcomed.

Bell says his tribute shows attract fans young and old that want to witness the eclectic style that is Bowie.

At each concert, Bell says the band makes a point to invite local musicians to open the show. On Saturday local artists S.J Riley and Marsala Lukianchuk will begin the night with their own rendition of an iconic Bowie song and open the show.

Tickets for Saturday nights show are still available online.

Let The Bad Times Roll: The Offspring And Simple Plan Are Coming To The Memorial Centre

The Offspring announced today that their Let the Bad Times Roll Tour is coming to Canada in late 2022, and will make a stop at The Peterborough Memorial Centre on Nov. 9, featuring support from Canadian rockers Simple Plan.

Photo courtesy of Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Frequently regarded as one of the best punk rock bands of all time, The Offspring have garnered a reputation for their unmistakable sound and social comment. The multi-platinum band first achieved worldwide success in the 90’s with the release of their album Smash, which sold over 11 million copies. Following Smash, they continued to release hit after hit, popularizing punk rock at a mainstream level.

Throughout their career, they’ve sold over a staggering 40 million albums, and toured arenas, and built a global fan base. Let the Bad Times Roll marks the band’s tenth studio album and third album produced by the legendary Bob Rock. True to the irreverence at the core of punk rock music, the band and lyricist Dexter Holland took a view to today’s cultural moments and didn’t shy away from creating topical material in this album.

Joining the band on tour are Montreal’s own Simple Plan, who have seen no shortage of success throughout their career.  The multi-platinum, Montreal-based band boasts worldwide sales topping 10 million, along with accolades including a 2005 Teen Choice Award, 2006 JUNO Fan Choice Award, and 2012 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. Simple Plan have remained an international sensation for over 20 years with worldwide sales topping 10 million and over 1 billion streams across all streaming platforms. Most recently the #ImJustAKid trend on Tik Tok has over 4.3 billion views and the #ImJustAKidChallenge hashtag has over 590.9 million views and counting.

“We are so excited to finally be able to announce this Canadian tour with The Offspring, “ says Chuck Comeau of Simple Plan. “We know a lot of our Canadian fans have been waiting for a very long time for this and we’re absolutely thrilled to play for them all over the country. Canada is a very special place for our band, and we know these shows are gonna be amazing.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. online, by phone at 705-743-3561, or in person at the PMC Grant Thornton Box Office.

First organized in 1989 as part of the now defunct Peterborough Arts Umbrella, the festival became a not-for-profit organization in 2001 and a registered charity in 2018.

The mandate of the festival is to promote folk music and arts within the Peterborough community as well as provide safely accessible venues and diverse audiences for both local and Canadian touring musicians.

The 2022 edition of Folk Fest featured acts such as the Sudbury string band, Murder Murder.

I, The Mountain from Kitchener played through sunset and into the evening.

Afie Jurvanen, known by his stage name, Bahamas headlined the show with a packed performance on Saturday Night. Jurvanen was born in Toronto and raised in Barrie.

On Sunday the 12-piece band from the Niagara area, My Son The Hurricane performed during the day. Lead singer Jacob Bergsma, wore a Zellers smock to commemorate the announcement that the Canadian company would be returning.

In addition to the performances, the festival featured an artisan village, a food village and valet bicycling parking provided by B!KE Community Bike Shop. Reusable dishes were used by food vendors and a team of volunteers washed and returned them to keep the festival as eco-friendly as possible.

The Peterborough Folk Festival is a volunteer-run, non-profit, registered charity organization and relies on the generosity of sponsors and donors to keep the event free.
