PTBOPics & Coverage From Seedy Sunday

The 8th Annual Seed Sale and Exchange known as Seedy Sunday took place this past Sunday at George Street United Church.

Organizer Jillian Bishop from Urban Tomato Lady estimates that there were approximately 1,300 people that stopped into this year's event. Tomato seeds were a popular item from booth to booth, with a demand for all sorts of varieties in size and colour, and there were many questions surrounding growing tomato plants on balconies.

One of the revisions they made this year other than extending the hours was moving the seed exchange area into the kitchen to allow for more room for people to shop and trade with others.

Also, Jillian tells us that over $250 was raised for Seeds of Diversity.

Overall, it was a very bustling day as folks gathered what they needed to begin their gardening season. So wonderful to see so many people taking advantage of such a great event sharing the same love of gardening.

"Life Of Pi" Author Yann Martel Talks About Trent, Peterborough & The Writing Process

Yann Martel began writing, on the side, while studying philosophy at Trent University. "I was terrible, at first. I wrote a bunch of really bad plays and short stories. But I loved playing with language, creating a set, inventing characters," he says in this YouTube interview below. "I kept at it and, slowly, I became a writer."  In this interview, he talks about life at Trent, Peterborough, the writing process, the success of his book and the Oscar-winning movie adaptation, and more...

Look At The Totally Awesome Superman Peterborough Tattoo This Man Has On His Arm

How much does Brandon Slavik love Peterborough? Well enough to get this amazing work of art on his arm (see pics below). As he explains to us: "I have it on my left arm. It originally started out with the Superman symbol when I was 18 and I decided to turn it into a sleeve with a different layout. I am born and raised in this town and take pride in the skyline that our town offers. All of the buildings have meaning to myself/family or are unique to our City. I have St. John's Anglican Church, Quaker Oats, Hunter St. Bridge, Times Square Clock, Market Hall, Lift Lock and the Peterborough Water Tower. My childhood friend and amazing Tattoo Artist Scott Mason spent over 8 hours on the arm in two sittings. He came up with the layout and we agreed on the shots of the buildings and which buildings we put in there. The neat thing was the more we started talking, the more buildings we wanted to include (like our childhood school King George) but my arm was not big enough to fit everything on."  Wow.

Peterborough Band To Watch: roboteyes

Peterborough's roboteyes has just released their debut album. It has a distinct 80s new wave, synthpop sound that lands somewhere around the feel of early eighties British duo Yaz (aka Yazoo).

Their first single, "Break My Heart", could become a hit if it gets radio airplay.

Band members include Kate LeDeuce, vocals; Ryan Ford, guitar/vocals; Matt Servo, synthesis; and Marty Kerslake, bass.

Have a listen to the 4-track album or download it here.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Das Bootleg Studios in Toronto.
