Help out an important cause and pick up a red pashmina for that special someone this holiday season. This Peterborough-based initiative partners with Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, and proceeds from the sale of the red pashminas are directed to advancing education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families. To learn more about the Red Pashmina Campaign and how it empowers women there and locally, visit their website, Facebook or Twitter page. Pashminas can be purchased for $20 at Tango, Glow Maternity, The New Canadians Centre, YWCA, My Left Breast, The Benevolent Stranger, Joie de Vie and Sympathy for the Rebel.

David Wilcox Had A Packed House At The Venue Doing The Bearcat

It was a special night at The Venue Friday, as Canadian rocker David Wilcox played his classics like "Riverboat Fantasy" and "Do the Bearcat" to a packed crowd. The evening was sponsored by WIND Mobile, which has recently opened two stores in Peterborough—one at Charlotte Mews, the other at 999 Lansdowne Street—and WIND Co-Founder Mike O'Connor was on hand to donate a $20,000 cheque to the Peterborough Festival of Trees. We spotted, among many others, The Wolf's Dani Stover, Brian Ellis and Ryan Lalonde doing the bearcat. Here's some (grainy) pics from the concert...

Kawartha Potters' Guild 2012 Christmas Sale At The Lions Community Centre

The Kawartha Potters' Guild are having their 2012 Christmas sale at The Lions Community Centre (347 Burnham St.) this weekend. Drop in to see some of the region's best potters and clay artists. There will be demonstrations, a door prize and free admission.

  • Friday, November 30th – 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 1st – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 2nd – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are now available for Peterborough Festival of Trees City Sidewalks. Festivities kick off on Tuesday, November 27th with the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and continue with unique events each night of the week. From Wednesday to Sunday, head down to Millennium Park to enjoy the Forest Fantasy (general admittance is only $5).

Proceeds support local health care initiatives such as Hospice Peterborough, Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation, and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
