Publican House Brewery Raises More Than $11,750 To Support Canadian Canoe Museum
/Through a portion of the sales of its Paddler’s Ale and associated merchandise in 2018, Publican House Brewery raised $11,762.98 to support the ongoing work of the Canadian Canoe Museum in this, the third year of their “Paddler’s Ale” partnership. Last year, Publican House donated more than $7,000 to the museum.

“The Canadian Canoe Museum is excited to see this partnership grow and we are so grateful to Publican House for its continued support of the museum and its mission,” says Carolyn Hyslop, Executive Director of the Canoe Museum.
“In all sorts of ways, like this one, the community continues to rally around the museum, and together, as we share Peterborough and the Kawarthas with the wider world, we are so much stronger.”
In 2018, Publican House introduced Paddler’s Ale merchandise, including a baseball hat, T-shirt and tin mug.
This locally-designed merchandise features the Paddler’s Ale logo and is available at the Tumblehome Shop (in-store and online) at the museum, and at the Publican House retail store and online. New to the lineup this year is a crew neck sweatshirt in forest green, perfect for the campfire.

Wild Water & Wheels Pipeline Express Coaster (Last Remaining Bailey Auto Sled Coaster In World) Has Closed Down
/The amusement and theme park related news site Coaster Nerd reports that Wild Water & Wheels Pipeline Express Coaster has closed down. It was the last remaining Bailey "Auto Sled" coaster in the world.

Many people have fond memories of going down that coaster at Wild Water & Wheels over the years—it even made our list of 57 Signs You’re From Peterborough—and many a parent has taken their kids there.
The long walk up the stairs to get to the platform overlooking Chemong Road could be as harrowing as the ride depending on the wind on any given day.

Wild Water & Wheels says a new attraction is slated open in 2020, but no word yet on what that will be.

Canoe Museum's Campfires & Cocktails Flannel Event Raises Over $40,000 To Support Educational Programming
/More than 200 people attended the Canadian Canoe Museum’s first-ever “Campfires and Cocktails” event on May 4th, enjoying local food and drink, live music and an amazing auction.
The event raised $40,250 to support educational programming and will return next year, offering community members another opportunity to “channel their flannel”.

The museum’s galleries were brimming thanks to the support of many, including the volunteer organizing committee, sponsors, food providers, and the 15 local artists and distinguished Canadians who painted paddles for the live auction.
The evening was set to music by local country-folk-pop trio the Dixie Hicks and complemented by artisans at work in the Preserving Skills Gallery.

“This first-of-its-kind event was embraced by the community, and we are so grateful for all the support the museum received,” says Caroline Anderson, Annual Giving Co-ordinator with the museum.

“From the organizing committee led by Jane Ulrich, to the local businesses who brought such incredible creativity to the table, we were amazed by the initiative and interest,” adds Anderson.

Jonathan Hall & Kayley Duggan New Owners Of Nostalgic Journey
/Nostalgic Journey, a sprawling 6,000-square-foot multi-vendor antique, vintage and collectables store established in 2003, has been taken over by couple Jonathan Hall (also co-proprietor of The Twisted Wheel lounge in downtown Peterborough) and Kayley Duggan.

Located at 1118 Trans-Canada Highway 7, just a stone’s throw away from the end of the 115 outside of Peterborough, it is a treasure trove for antique and vintage finds.

Hall has been going to Nostalgic Journey for years, and, in fact, many of his finds are housed in his chic Twisted Wheel bar on Water Street he operates with Mike Judson.
When he and Duggan found out this electic store was available from Gail, the former owner, they jumped at the chance to take it on. They just took ownership March 1st, and it has quickly become a labour of love.
Hall, also a talented graphic designer, tells PTBOCanada they don’t plan to reinvent the wheel, though there will be some tweaks here and there which will be reflected with his love of vinyl in a section he and Kayley are developing.

Nostalgic Journey has many of the same vendors—there are more than 30—that have been there for years, but Hall says new ones are coming on as well as word of mouth travels quickly about the couple’s venture.

There was a constant flow of customers young and old on a Saturday we visited the location, and there is plenty of parking.
Indeed, it’s a perfect place to go on a date, with friends, or bring your folks/in-laws. The nostalgia all around you makes for great conversation points, buys and photos. You can get lost in there for hours.
Speaking of photography, the couple is utilizing social media to build awareness about Nostalgic Journey—the unique collectables and antiques there are very Instagram worthy.

11 Great Date Ideas In Peterborough
/Tired of the same old song and dance on date nights? You’re probably not alone. There is only so much Netflix worth watching before you find yourself watching repeats. With that in mind, here are some date night ideas in Peterborough…
1. Get out and listen to some live music: Peterborough has some awesome venues around town— the Memorial Centre, Del Crary Park, The Venue, Market Hall, Showplace, the Garnet, The Twisted Wheel, the Historic Red Dog and more!
2. Pull out your dabbers because it’s time to play BINGO! Go in a big group to Delta Bingo on Clonsilla for a load of laughs or take your special someone for some intimate number calling action.
3. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, a walk through Jackson’s Park is perfect during them all. This park is a gem in our city and has some incredible scenery to take in. Take advantage of it!
4. Get out and chuck some axes at the Peterborough Axe Club! Get out all of your pent-up frustration and aim for the bull’s-eye at this incredibly fun facility. Like it so much on your date that you want to play again? They have a lot of league options—and they’re licensed!
5. Take your date to new heights with a night out at the Rock and Rope Climbing Centre. Combine a unique physical experience with a tough mental challenge to find out what you and your partner are really made of.
6. Cheer on a local sports team! The Peterborough Petes and Century 21 Lakers provide a lot entertainment all under the iconic Memorial Centre roof.
7. Visit the Canadian Canoe Museum and take part in an artisan workshop. It might not be like the romantic pottery scene from Ghost, but coming out with a paddle or pair of moccasins you made would be kind of cool.
8. Bundle up and strap on your skates in the wintertime for a skate on the canal! (Make sure the Green Flag is up because nothing sounds like more of a date ruiner than falling through the ice.)
9. Dinner out—and dancing! Somewhere downtown. For its size, Peterborough seemingly has more amazing restaurants, cafes, pubs and dance clubs per capita than almost anywhere else.

10. Try out your problem solving skills at the Escape Maze. Fun is the name of the game in their challenging interactive game rooms.
11. Take a stroll along the paths and check out the animals at Riverview Park & Zoo! Go for a ride on the train during its seasonal schedule, and then show your daring side by riding down the super slide.

A Local Company Wants To Build A Water Park On Little Lake
/Peterborough couple Jason and Niki Pulchinski have a dream: to construct a water park on Little Lake in this city they love.
Their Peterborough-based company At The Lake Distributing Inc.—which sells water toys and docks, and has installed water parks across the country—wants to construct a quarter million dollar inflatable water park on Little Lake.

The Pulchinski's company has a proven track record: They have installed water parks (see pics below) at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario; Camp Qwanoes in Crofton, British Columbia; Clevelands House Resort in Minett, Ontario; Sunshine House Boats in Cranbrook, British Columbia and an upcoming one at Railyard Wake Park in Mount Albert, Ontario this summer.

These parks really add a wow factor to any place that installs one, and this is what ATL Distributing wants to bring to Peterborough—thinking it could be great for locals but also an awesome tourist attraction being near the Trent Severn Waterway and Lift Lock for boaters coming through from all parts.
It could help put Peterborough on the map even more.

ATL want to pay the city to put up this water park (they are open to different locations but suggested one near Del Crary Park and the Art Gallery of Peterborough—see rendering at top of post), and incur all the costs associated with running it (insurance, security, and everything else involved in the running of this park).
It would be run by ATL and it would create at least six well paid jobs, the company tells PTBOCanada. Safety is top of mind: There would be lifeguards, and lifejackets would be required wear. They also would partner with local businesses, kids camps and kids charities to get people downtown.

"Bringing a water park to Peterborough is really for the attraction of people to our beautiful downtown and Del Crary Park by Little Lake," ATL says.
Jason has reached out to the City of Peterborough and is hoping to get a meeting to present an elaborate proposal to them of how their company can work with the muncipality on the project. Without their blessing, the water park will not happen.
In the meantime, Jason and Niki will continue to dream big, believing this project could create a huge splash here. They hope to someday see kids and adults from Peterborough and beyond creating family memories at this water park on Little Lake in the Kawarthas.

The Canadian Canoe Museum Offering Free Canoe City Walking Tour On Saturdays
/In celebration of their new exhibit Artisan and Industry, the Canadian Canoe Museum is launching a free walking tour on Saturdays this summer.
A guided tour will run each Saturday from July 22nd through August 26th from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The tour includes five stops featuring locations such as Spa Euphoria, the previous location of Peterborough Canoe Company. For participants of eligible drinking age, all guided tours end with a beer tasting at Publican House Brewery in downtown Peterborough.
The Canoe City Walking Tour will eventually transition into a self-guided tour, and stationary interpretive panels will be installed along stops on the tour.

328 Paddlecraft Just Filled Both Tubs At Trent Severn National Historic Site In Epic Display
/Last year, 138 paddlecraft were jammed into one of the ginormous "tubs" at the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site in Peterborough on Lock n' Paddle day, breaking the previous record of 101.

This year, Lock 'N Paddle upped their game even more, filling both tubs on a beautiful Saturday (June 24th) with more than 150 canoes and kayaks each (to mark Canada's 150 birthday) and lifting them 65 feet.
It was one heck of a jigsaw puzzle for organizers and Lockmaster Ed, seen in this video below...

And once the lock chambers were at an equal elevation, the Lock Master halted the lockage and participants and visitors raised their paddles and sang both O Canada and Happy Birthday in celebration of 150 years of Confederation.
